Join the Schmik Family!!!

Schmik is a temporary artist concept store showcasing the work of some of Brisbane’s leading artists, designers, and craft makers. Proudly sponsored by Multiplex Portside Wharf Pty Ltd, Schmik offers the public the opportunity to purchase distinctive, hand-crafted works of art, craft, and design direct from the makers and support the local contemporary visual arts community.

Schmik was the brain-child of Marisa Molina jeweler and sculptor, and Romy Willing, a photographer and arts manager. Marisa had, for a number of years, arranged for artists to get together for a one-night only exhibition and sale of their works over the Christmas period. In November 2007, Marisa approached Romy to become involved in such an event. During their search for a venue, Romy and Marisa were approached by Portside Wharf with an opportunity to use a retail space not just for one night, but on an on going basis. Hence, Schmik was born, and it has been a great success ever since it opened its doors on December 7 2007.

Marisa left Australia to expand her horizons and travel the world in February 2008, but has left her indelible mark of beauty on Schmik. Romy and Annie Burns, a fellow member of Schmik, are now the organizers of the concept store.

Artists are invited to be part of the Schmik collective based upon the artistic merit of their work and professionalism within their practice. The organizers also ensure that each style of artwork within the same medium is distinctively different, to ensure diversity within the stock.

Schmik is currently looking for more artists, designers, and craftmakers to join our little family! As the space is run by the artists, all artists involved must be able to man the store at least once in a fortnight, and each artist is expected to contribute to the store kitty, which covers costs for marketing and administration. There is no commission taken on sales, and the space is totally rent and utilities free. At this point, we only have the space until the end of May 2008, so if you are interested in being involved, please act quickly, and express your interest via email at schmikstore@yahoo.com.au. Please include a brief artist/artwork profile and a few low res images of your work.

Schmik prides itself on creating a family atmosphere amongst its members and each artist is expected to show respect to and support each other. Share the love.
